Approximately eight years ago, Herricks agreed to cooperate with the Red Cross by offering its schools as shelters in the event of natural disasters (floods, fires, etc). No approach has been made to Herricks since that time by the Red Cross to modify that agreement to include nuclear evacuation.

Dear Mr. Margulies:

This is to inforn you that contrary to the documents dated July 25, 1984, filed with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission by the American Red Cross, the Herricks Public Schools has not agreed to any plan with the Red Cross or LILCO for any of its schools or community center to serve as shelters as part of a nuclear evacuation plan for the Shoreham plant.

Approximately eight years ago, Herricks agreed to cooperate with the Red Cross by offering its schools as shelters in the event of natural disasters (floods, fires, etc). No approach has been made to Herricks since that time by the Red Cross to modify that agreement to include nuclear evacuation.

We see a real distinction between our initial agreement with the Red Cross and this latest attempt to exploit the Herricks Public Schools, suggesting that, by inference, it is in agreement with the LILCO evacuation scheme.

We object strenously and do not endorse any such plan.

Mr. Frank M..Rasbury Executive Director of Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross 264 Old Country Road Mineola, New York 11501

Dear Mr. Rasbury:

The pur' pose of this letter is to advise that the Massapequa Board of Education and this writer have recently be.come aware that the American Rdd Cross has designated the Massapequa Public Schools (Massapequa High School) as an emergency relocation center in instances when there is a nuclear emergency at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station.

Please be advised that the Massapequa Schools does not consider the standing agreement between our school district and the American Red Cross, which was formulated in 1975, to cover a radiological emergency.

Accordingly, as District Superintendenc of Schools and the Executive officer of the Massapequa Board of Education, I am advising you that we have not entered into any agreement to serve as a relocation center or as a decontamination and monitoring facility, in the event of a radiological emergency at Shoreham.

Very trul yours, l,'
