NRC MANAGEMENT MEETING

SUMMARY

Dehr Mr. Kingsley:

The NRC met with Commonwealth Edison and LaSalle County Station management on June 30,1999. This management meeting was open to public observation. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss LaSalle Station's performance activities since the start up of Unit 2. contains the associated meet.'ng summary. Enclosure 2 contains the handout provided to the NRC by Commonwealth Edison during the meeting.

In accordance with Section 2.790 cf the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in NRC's Public Document Room.

Public Meeting Summary LaSalle County Station June 30.1999. M_anaaement Meeting Summary:

1 During the meeting, the licensee provided the NRC representatives with a handout I

(Enclosure 2) and discussed the information contained in the handout. The discussion centered around LaSalle Station's performance activities as they related to actions taken by Commonwealth Edition to improve plant performance following restart of Unit 2.

The licensee specifically provided the following information:

The licensee discussed plant performance of both Units 1 and 2 including unit performance indicators, station capacity factor, unit power histories, human performance, improvements in the Corrective Action program, and other performance related issues.

Plant material condition status and initiatives were also discussed. The licensee indicated that while progress had been made regarding material condition issues, additional focus was placed on a number of plant priorities.

Functional area reviews were provided for the following functional areas: Operations, Maintenance / Work Control, Engineering, and Plant Support. Each functional area review included discussions of current area performance and specific issues being addressed in each area.

During these discussions, the NRC staff acknowledged the licensee's improvements and noted that challenges still remained and that continued licensee efforts were appropriate.
