STP is requesting a call to discuss a planned emergent relief/exemption request related to a non-compliance with ASME code testing requirements for repaired welds. I spoke with our dry cask team, and they could be ready for a call as early as 3/7/22.
The vendor cannot find documentation to prove that 100% of the weld was inspected as required -
98% of the inspection was completed. Approximately 1 of the weld was not inspected as required.
The vendor is aware of where this 1 section is, and noted that it is not the area where the defect was found that required repair. This affects 4 of the casks as STP, one of which has already been loaded with fuel.
Currently, we are on a loading campaign movement hold. Our conclusion was that we couldnt lower the affected loaded MPC into its overpack with this question of code non-compliance open, so it is currently located in the hi-track transfer cask, contributing to higher dose in the area.
