General Summary:
The office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR) staff hosted a public meeting with representatives from NEI, NextEra, Entergy, and the UCS to discuss FOF inspection hardship criteria in calendar year (CY) 2021 during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).
During this meeting, the NSIR staff provided a brief recap of the NRC actions taken regarding FOF inspections during the PHE, specifically the updates made to the FOF inspection procedures. NSIR staff then explained the process that would be used in CY2021 to evaluate site-specific hardships that could impact the safety of both the NRC inspectors and site employees and how the FOF inspection could be adjusted to minimize these issues. NSIR management closed the presentation by opening the floor for discussion and related questions to all participants. Licensee and industry representatives expressed concerns related to resuming certain FOF inspection activities but overall supported the NRCs planned path forward. Dr. Ed Lyman of the UCS agreed that the NRC should conduct FOF exercises safely during this PHE but also cautioned the length of time between evaluations.}}
