SUBJECT:

NUCLEAR MEDICINE LICENSE

Dear Dr. Hall:

This is in response to your letter dated October 18,1997 requesting information on how to

" reactivate" a nuclear medicine license. Since you were previously listed ort the Anchorage Diagnostic Imaging Center license enclosed with your !stter, it would appear you still meet NRC training requirements (see enclosed 10 CFR 35.910 and 35.920) with the possible exception of the " recentness of training" requirement in 35.972. Since I have no knowledge of your work experience since you were on the Ar.chorage license I cannot advise you further at this time.

You are permitted to interpret nuclear medicine scan result's without a specific radioactive materials license provided that an authorized physician (named on an NRC, agreement state license or associated with a broad scope license as an authorized user) is supervising the nuclear medicine procedure including the prescribing, handling, preparation and administration of the radiopharmaceutical.

The above information pertains to NRC licensing requirements for NRC licensed medical facilities. The State of Califomia (and other agreement states) requirements in this area are similar to the NRC's but may differ slightly in some areas. Pcz further information about California requirements please contact Donald Bunn, California Department of Health Services, Sacramento (916-323-2756).

If I can be of further assistance please contact me at 510-975-0249.

Sincerely, ames L. Montgomery r
