Dear Mr. Maynard: }

An NRC inspection was conducted February 24-27, 1997, at your Wolf Creek Generating  ;

Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that I

inspeca n.

! The inspection included implementation of your emergency plan and procedures during

I your biennial emergency preparedness exercise. The results indicated that you sufficiently

l demonstrated the capability to implement your approved emergency plan. Overall

! performance was generally good. One exercise weakness was identified for ineffective

internal and external communications in the technical support center. t

l Exercise weaknesses, according to 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix E.IV.F.2.g, are inspection

l findings that need to be corrected by the licensee. Therefore, you are requested to provide  !

this office with a description of your corrective measures and your schedule for completing

l

these actions within 30 days afte.r receipt of this letter.

l

l In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter

l and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
