INDUSTRY COMMENTS ON NRC PROPOSED AGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS IN THE DRAFT GENERIC AGING LESSONS LEARNED FOR SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL REPORT

Dear Mr. Remer:

Thank you for your letters of June 4, June 30, and July 7, 2015, providing comments on the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) discussion of the structural aging management programs, mechanical aging management programs, and tables for the NRCs subsequent license renewal (SLR) guidance documents, respectively. The NRC staff is developing the Generic Aging Lessons Learned for Subsequent License Renewal (GALL-SLR) Report, and the Standard Review Plan for Review of Subsequent License Renewal Applications for Nuclear Power Plants (SRP-SLR), to provide generic guidance to utilities wishing to apply for operation beyond 60 years.

We very much appreciate the input on these important programs. We have entered the comments in our database for public comments along with the comments that Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and industry had submitted earlier. Your letter and the attachment are also available in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under ADAMS Accession Numbers ML15232A406, ML15232A407, ML1523A432, ML15232A435, and ML15232A444.

As we are in the final stages of reviewing the draft GALL-SLR and SRP-SLR, we will not be able to respond to your comments in the draft versions that we plan to release in December 2015.

However, they will be reviewed and considered for the final version of the guidance documents, and you will have additional opportunity to provide input during our public comment period for the draft documents.

If you have any questions, please contact Bennett Brady of my staff by telephone at 301-415-2981 or by e-mail at Bennett.Brady@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
