The Commission accepts the industrys proposal to conduct a briefing of the Commission on the implementation of risk-informed and performance-based initiatives. The Commission briefing is scheduled on Thursday, August 2, 2007, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The meeting will be open to the public and will be held in the Commissions Conference Room on the first floor of the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) headquarters building at One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland. I am enclosing a copy of the draft meeting agenda for your information (enclosure 1). The Commission would like to hear your views on the quality of PRAs and PRA standards. In particular, the Commission would like NEI to provide an update on internal events at power and fire PRAs, since these are the two most significant contributors to risk. Please let us know who plans to brief the Commission.

To assist the Commission in preparing for the meeting, please send a copy of any written material addressed to Ms. Michelle Schroll (rms1@nrc.gov) in the Office of the Secretary, by July 26, 2007, so that it can be distributed to the Commission for review in advance of the meeting. Enclosed are guidelines for viewgraphs, if you choose to use them (enclosure 2). If you intend to use viewgraphs, please notify Ms. Schroll as soon as possible. Paper or electronic presentation formats, such as PowerPoint, are acceptable.

Schroll at 301-415-1651. Please bring 100 copies of your material to the meeting for members of the public. If you are unable to provide these copies, please advise.

Your presentation at the Commission meeting should be based on the assumption that Commissioners are familiar with the content of your written material. Please plan your oral presentation for 30 minutes or less, discussing the important points on which you wish to focus the Commissions attention.

Reserved visitor parking for Commission guests is available. If you wish to use reserved parking, please notify Ms. Schroll in advance.
