ALERT AT ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE UNIT 2 DESCRIPTION:  At 11:05 p.m., (CDT), on October 23, 2007, Entergy Operations declared an Alert at Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 following a brief fire in an electrical panel resulting in the loss of a division of safety equipment. The redundant division of safety equipment was not affected by the event. The licensee reported that the fire had immediately extinguished itself once electrical power was isolated to the affected panel. Both units were operating at 100 percent power at the time of the event and remain at full power.
 
The licensee exited the Alert at 1:33 a.m. (CDT) on October 24, 2007. The licensee is investigating the cause of the fire and performing repairs prior to restoring power to the affected systems.
The NRC resident inspector responded to the site and monitored licensee actions in response to the event. The NRC will conduct inspections to evaluate this event and licensee corrective actions.
The state of Arkansas has been notified. This information has been discussed with the licensee and is current as of 10:30 a.m. (CDT) on October 24, 2007. There has been limited media interest in this event.
