UPDATE - TERMINATION OF ALERT AT ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2DESCRIPTION:  The Alert declared at 1:04 p.m. (CT), October 30, 2006, at Arkansas NuclearOne Unit 2 was terminated at 8:00 p.m.(CT) after Entergy Operations Inc. officials verified that the fire was extinguished, the original conditions for the ALERT no longer existed. The Alert was declared because of a fire in an electrical panel resulting in the loss of some safety equipment, including one train of emergency feedwater. Region IV deactivated its Incident Response Center and exited the Monitoring Mode at 8:30 p.m. (CT).The licensee commenced a Technical Specification required shutdown at 7:25 p.m. (CT)because it was unable to timely restore power to the affected safety equipment. The plant was taken off-line at 9:34 p.m. (CT) without incident.NRC resident inspectors will continue to follow the licensee's root cause evaluation of the fireand monitor licensee equipment restoration activities.State and local officials were notified of the Alert termination. The licensee issued a pressrelease. This information has been discussed with licensee management and is current as of 1:00 p.m. (CT) on October 31, 2006.This preliminary notification is issued for information only and no further action by the staff isanticipated.
