The plant, operated by Ariz ona Public Service Co.,is located 55 miles west of Phoenix, Ariz."Michelle Catts' experience and commitment to safety will help the NRC ensure that Palo Verde conducts operations with the highest safety standard s to protect public health andsafety," said NRC Region IV Administrator Bruce S. Mallett.Catts holds a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering from North Carolina StateUniversity. Before joining the NRC in 2003, she worked in a fuel design group for Exelon
 
Corp., which operates severa l nuclear power plants.She has worked in NRC's Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa., as a reactor engineer inthe Division of Reactor Projects and as a reactor inspector in the Division of Reactor Safety.She joins two other resident inspectors assigned at Palo Verde, who can be reached at (623) 386-3638.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant ha s at least two resident inspectors. Theyserve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoringsignificant work activities and interacting with plant workers and the public.
