==Dear Mr. Johnson:==

1 On May 21, 1986, we notified you that the issue involving difficulties in starting and operating the safety chilled water chiller units was reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted supplemental reports logged TXX-4875 and TXX-4934, dated June 26, 1986, and July 24, 1986, respectively.
Currently, the cognizant engineering contractor, Gibbs & Hill is performing a detailed review of vendor specifications and updating the list of components serviced by the component cooling water system. The supplier (York) has indicated the installation of chiller flow control valves will resolve deficiencies with an operating safety chiller, but an evaluation is required (and underway) to review this modification with regards to a standby, non-operating safety chiller which must start during an accident scenario.
Westinghouse is being contracted to evaluate the impact of the 400F CCW temperature on NSSS components. Our final conclusions concerning this issue                              ,
will be based upon receipt of the information from these vendors.
We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate submitting our next report by                            !
