South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Final Environmental Statement Impingement /Entrainment Monitoring Program The impingement and entrainment monitoring program for the South Texas Project Units 1 & 2, as specified in Section 6.1.3.2 and Appendix E of the Final Environmental Statement, consists of a two-phased study. Phase One, which was conducted in 1975 and 1976 prior to completion of the Reservoir Makeup Pumping Facility (RMPF), predicted annual rates of impingement and entrainment based on observed river flow rates during the study period.
Phase Two, which began with initiation of cooling reservoir filling, will measure actual rates of impingement and entrainment.
The Final Environmental Statement specifies that the Applicant submit periodic reports describing the progress of the entrainment and impingement programs conducted during cooling reservoir filling operations. Please find attached five copies of the first of these reports, entitled " Report #1, Colorado River Entrainment and Impingement Monitoring Program, Phase Two Studies - July, 1983 - June, 1984". Beginning with the time period covering the last quarter of 1984, and within 90 days of each subsequent quarter, Houston Lighting & Power Company will submit quarterly reports on the progress of this monitoring program.
