NEWS MEDIA INTEREST ASSOCIATED WITH AN INADVERTENT SAFETY INJECTION This updates a preliminary notification that was issued on July 26, 1990, that documented media interest in an inadvertent safety injection that occurred at 2:16 p.m. (CDT) at Comanche Peak, Unit 1, while the plant was in hot standby.                  l The licensee terminated the unusual event at 5:40 p.m. on July 26, 1990, after                 i restoring from the safety injection.
The licensee has suspended the initiation of all danger tag clearances until a licensee task team determines the cause of the event and reviews the adequacy of              1 the danger. tag clearance process. The licensee is also reviewing the adequacy of all danger tag clearances that were initiated prior to the 2:16 p.m. safety injection. The licensee has also fonned task teams to review the effects on the plant of the transient associated with the safety injection, the emergency
        . response to the event, and the adequacy of the design of the main steam isolation             .
valve (MSIV) control circuitry. As of 7 a.m., on July 27, 1990, the licensee determined that it was acceptable for Unit 1 to remain in hot standby while these activities are being conducted.                                                                ,
i The resident inspectors are monitoring each of the task team activities and the region has initiated a special inspection of the design of the MSIV control circuitry.
