CONTAMINATED WORKER On October 22, 1987, a temporary worker alarmed the portal monitor while exiting                 >
the Radiation Control Area. A health physics technician performed a followup survey with a portable survey meter, but no radioactive material was found.             On October 26, the worker alarmed the portal monitor again while wearing the same shirt. A followup survey on October 26 identified a 0.02 uCi Co-60 particle on the worker's sleeve. The worker stated the shirt was taken home on October 22, washed, and worn to work on October 26.
The worker expressed a concern that his residence has been contaminated.
The licensee surveyed the worker's residence on October 26 and 27; no radioactive material was found. The licensee has also requested the State of Louisiana to perform an independent survey.
The licensee stated that a preliminary assessment indicated that the worker received about 100 mrem to the upper arm.
Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a press release.
The state of Louisiana has been informed.
