UPDATE TO PN OF JULY 11, 1985 - FEE 0 WATER C0fiTROL PROBLEMS Region IV personnel assisted by the Region III Senior Resident Inspector at Callaway (D. Little), were on site Friday, July 12, 1985, to followup on licensee initiated action to correct the feedwater control problem.
The f4RC inspectors reviewed the licensee evaluation of causal factors of the turbine trips and reactor trips caused by steam generator icvel oscillations while transferring from the main feedwater bypass valves to the main feedwater reg, valves.
The NRC inspectors reviewed the licensco's revised procedures, operator training, the simulator's ability to simulate plant characteristics for this evolution, and hardware and control changes implemented to improve the stability of the steam generator level during this transfer.
The NRC inspectors found the licensee's corrective action to be satisfactory.
On July 13, 1985, the plant was restarted. The project section chief and the Wolf Creek senior resident inspector observed portions of this startup including the feedwater transfer. The startua was successful and the steam generator level was much more stable than it 1ad been on previous startups.
The plant is now at 50% power awaiting the stabilization of Xenon prior to continuing the test program.
