Not Applicable Subj:ct: SHUT DOWN TO REPAIR FEEDWATER PUMP Th2 licensee shut the unit down on July 23, 1985, to investigate damage to the South Reactor Fe:d Pump which occurred during demonstration testing on July 22, 1985. Initial examination of the pump showed extensive damage to the thrust bearing housing, and further examination of the pump is underway.
The plant began a previously planned maintenance outage early to repair the pump. The licensee and pump vendor are also considering the possibility of a similar problem with the North Reactor Feed Pump.
Th3 S:nior Resident Inspector is monitoring the licensee's activities.
The State of Michigan will be informed.
Region III (Chicago) was informed of the pump damage on July 23, 1985, and obtained additional information on July 24, 1985. This information is current as of 2 p.m., (CDT),
July 24, 1985.
