V. C. SUMMER SHUTDOWN IN EXCESS OF 48 HOURS Due to continuing SG conductivity and sulphate problems associated with a resin intrusion event that occurred on February 14, 1989, a decision was made to shut the unit down on March 10, 1989. At the time of shutdown SG cation conductivity ranged from 0.95 to 1.0 micromho per centimeter and sulphates ranged from 56 to 77 parts per billion. The EPRI recommended limits are _0.8 and _20, respectively. The plant is in cold shutdown. The steam generators are being flushed by filling and draining. Plans then call for mechanical cleaning of the S/G's, dearating tank, main condenser and piping systems. All three pressurizer safety valves will be replaced while the unit is shutdown. The licensee anticipates the outage to last approximately 21 days.
A regional Water Chemistry Specialist will be on site the week of March 20, 1989.
