STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK CAUSES SHUTDOWN Catawba Unit 1 shut down on August 5,1988, due to a primary to secondary leak in the "0" steam generator. The' leak was approximately 100 gallons per day. The plant is allowed to operate with such a leak of up to 500 gallons per day, according to its technical specifications.
The "D"  steam generator was found to have an unretrievable part in the secondary side of the steam generator during the last outage. The licensee plans eddy current tests of two steam generators.
The outage is expected to last 18 days.
The licensee issued a news release.
The States of North and South Carolina have been informed.
