This PN updates PNO-II-88-30, issued May 6,1988, and is being issued for information purposes only.
The licensee has informed Region II that, during a police interview, a security officer at Turkey Point admitted that a story he told last week of exchanging shots with three
  - unidentified persons during the early morning hours of May 6 near the plant was false.
Acc:;rding to the licensee, the guard told police that he did encounter three unknown r~

The officer became l L%atened and drew his sidearm, accidentally discharging it during the process. This is
! allegedly what inflicted a fresh powder burn on the guard's arm.
  -The guard reportedly . told police that the discharged round struck the company pickup truck he was driving. The three men reportedly ran into the water and fled in two boats. The guard according to the licensee, fired five more shots, several of which hit the truck.
Driving away from the area, the guard told police that he realized -that he had not acted in accordance with company policy and decided to invent the anned intruder story. He reloaded his revolver, broke out the driver's side dndow on the truck, fired six rounds into the woods and returned to the plant and reported M t he had been fired upon.
The guard's access to the plant has been terminated, and he has resigned from the contract security force. The St6te of Florida has declined to prosecute.                                      _
