==SUBJECT:==
SHUTDOWN TO CHECK VALVE MOTORS Florida Power and Light (FPL) took Turkey Point Unit 4 out of service on November 23 for inspection of several Limitorque valve motors both inside and outside the containment building. The inspection was scheduled after FPL determined that some of the motors may not meet environmental qualification requirements in regard to such factors as lubricants and insulation.
FPL plans to restart Unit 4 later this week, and is fonnulating plans for confirming environmental qualification of valve motors at Unit 3, which is operating at 100 percent power.
FPL is prepared to respond to media inquiries.
The State of Florida has been informed.
