OUTAGE IN EXCESS OF 48 HOURS The licensee has taken the Crystal River plant off line and is holding the reactor in hot standby during repair of a leak in the unit's high pressure turbine steam chest.      Repairs are expected to take five days.
The main high pressure turbine developed a steam leak in its steam chest on September 5.
One steam chest bolt was found to be cracked and will be replaced. Remaining bolts will be retorqued.
On August 18, a one and one-half inch steam chest drain line ruptured during startup operations following a refueling and maintenance outage. The line ruptured again on August
: 21. In both instances, the rupture was in a socket weld.
In all three instances, small amounts of steam released into the auxiliary building came from the secondary (non-nuclear) side of the plant. Plant radiation monitoring equipment det:cted no measurable radioactivity.
Florida Power is prepared to respond to media inquiries.
The State of Florida has been informed.
