Ladies and Gentlemen:
On March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Reference 1 to all power reactor licensees and holders of construction permits in active or deferred status. Enclosure 1 of Reference 1 requested each addressee perform and submit a Flood Hazard Reevaluation Report (FHRR).
In order to fully perform this reevaluation for the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP) site, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted Reference 2 requesting specific information be obtained by the NRC from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and be provided to SNC. This request was necessary to support the March 12, 2014 submittal of the FHRR. The requested information has not yet been provided.
To meet all the requirements of Reference 1, an extension of 120 days after the USAEC flooding analysis information is requested. The need for an extension was discussed with NRC staff on February 21, 2014. This additional time is required to fully perform the FHRR for FNP modelling activities and analyses that depend on the requested information.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission NL-14-0330 Page2 This modeling and analyses includes the following:
* Reevaluate Dam Breaches and Failures (43 days)
* Finalize PMF Hydraulics with Governing Dam Break Scenario (30 days)
* Update Wind Generated Wave Analysis (36 days)
* Perform Technical Review of Calculation Packages (19 days)
* Complete Flood Hazard Reevaluation Report (21 days)
Even with overlapping activities, the above total is approximately 120 days.
