STAFF REQUIREMENTS MEMORANDUM - BRIEFING ON THE RESULTS OF THE AGENCY ACTION REVIEW MEETING, 9:00 A.M., THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2009, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on the results of its annual Agency Action Review Meeting (AARM) held on April 22, 2009. In addition, representatives of Arizona Public Service (APS) briefed the Commission on their plans for sustaining and further improving their performance at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Representatives of Babcock and Wilcox briefed the Commission on their plans to improve performance at Nuclear Fuel Services.
The staff should continue to look for ways to improve and clarify the evaluation process and criteria that are used to identify nuclear materials licensees that warrant discussion at the NRC's Agency Action Review Meeting as well as the criteria licensees need to achieve in order to no longer be considered for discussion.
The staff should provide the Commission with the status of the two facilities (Davis-Besse and Indian Point) that are currently receiving increased NRC oversight due to deviations from the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix. The status report should address the licensees' plans and schedules for satisfying the criteria to return to normal NRC monitoring efforts consistent with the Action Matrix.
