In Reference 1, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) submitted a request for an amendment to the Technical Specifications (TS) for St. Lucie Unit 2 to revise the minimum required emergency diesel generator day tank fuel volume to accommodate the reduced BTU/lb content in ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel oil. In Reference 2, the NRC provided FPL with a request for
* additional information (RAI). FPL's response to the RAI is contained in the attachment to this letter.
The RAI response is bounded by the original no hazards consideration of Refernce 1.

L-201-6-220 Attachment Page 1 of 1 Request for Additional Information MF8006 Response RAl-MF8006-SBPB-01 In the LAR the licensee proposed to increase the minimum volume requirements for the day tanks from 200 gallons to 238 _gallons each. The proposed changes would be reflected in Technical Specification 3/4.8.1, limiting condition for operation 3.8.1.1 and 3.8.1.2. St. Lucie Unit 2 Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) Table 9.5-2, "Diesel Generator Fuel Oil System Instrumentation Application," last updated in UFSAR Amendment No. 12, indicates that the day tank level includes the following alarm and control functions:
: 1. Low level alarm that starts the transfer pump and opens the tank inlet valve.
: 2. High level alarm that closes the tank inlet valve and stops the transfer pump, but control
.J,.             function can be overridden in manual mode .
: 3. High-high level alarm that closes the corresponding tank inlet valve.
Describe the relationship between the existing required day tank fuel oil volume and the tan!<
volume corresponding to the above tank level setpoints. Explain whether the increase in required fuel oil volume would change the relationship between the required volume and the setpoints, and provide justification for any change in the relationship.

===Response===
To facilitate use of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel, St. Lucie changed the setpoints for the Unit 2 .EOG Day Tank Level Switches as shown in Table 1 below. Corresponding to the Technical Specification level increase of 3.58 in., the Low-Low Switches were increased by 3 in.
and the Low Level Switch was increased by 3.25 in. The setpoints for the Hi-Hi and Hi Switches did not change.
