SHOREHAM PLANT SHUTOOWN AND POSSIBLE DECOMMISSIONING

==Purpose:==
To request Commission approval of a proposed letter to Long Island Lighting Company regarding transfer of the Shoreham plant to a state agency for shutdown and perhaps decommissioning.
Discussion:                                         As the Commission is aware, Long Island Lighting Company and the State of New York have announced an " agreement in principle" whose effect, if finalized, would be the transfer of the Shoreham plant to a state agency for shutdown and parhaps decommissioning.             It is our understanding that there are a number of major matters still to be negotiated in order to convert this " agreement in principle" into a binding agreement for such transter. In the interim while the negotiations continue, we understand that it is tilco's intent to continue with the NRC licensing procedures for theShorehamfacility./
