The purpose of this letter is to submit the annual 10 CFR 50.46 reporting information for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Units 1 and 2. The enclosed reports fulfill the annual reporting requirements of the emergency core cooling system (ECCS) evaluation model changes and errors for BSEP, Units 1 and 2, for the period from August 16, 2007, through August 15, 2008.
By letter dated September 11, 2007, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L), now doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc., reported an estimated fuel peak cladding temperature (PCT) of < 1567&deg;F for Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) fuel being used in BSEP, Units 1 and 2. For the current reporting period, there is no change in the PCT for the GNF fuel.
By letter dated March 27, 2008, the NRC approved license amendments supporting the transition to AREVA NP fuel and core design methodologies. Beginning with Cycle 17, Brunswick Unit 1 is operating with a mixed core design comprised of~co-resident GNF and AREVA fuel. BSEP Unit 2 has not yet begun operation with AREVA fuel. For the-current reporting period, there is no change in the reported PCT of < 1900'F for AREVA fuel.
