Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 Submittal of Revised Fire Hazards Analysis AECM-86/0123 Byletter(AECM-85/0129) dated May 7, 1985, Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) provided the NRC a revised Fire Hazards Analysis (FHA) which was the result of an evaluation of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) Fire Protection Program against NRC guidance as related to MP&L's positions regarding 10CFR 50 Appendix R criteria. By letter (AECM-85/0164) dated May 18, 1985, MP&L committed to provide updates of the FHA document on an annual basis. MP&L is providing the attached updated FHA for NRC information consistent with that commitment.
The changes from the May 7, 1985 FHA are the result of (1) design changes performed under the provision of 10CFR 50.59, (2) updated information resulting from ongoing reviews and analysis, and (3) revised wording for clarification.
10CFR 50.59 type safety evaluations have been performed on all changes from the May 7, 1985 FHA with the exception of those additions resulting from the analysis of Fire Area 25 which are discussed in the following paragraph.
It was noted in the 10CFR 50 Appendix R Fire Protection Review Summary Report submitted with the {{letter dated|date=May 7, 1985|text=May 7,1985 letter}} that there was one fire area (Fire Area 25) where limited personnel access precluded the indepth analysis conducted on other areas. This analysis has now been completed and is being evaluated for exceptions to 10CFR 50, Appendix R. The FHA contained herein reflects the completed analysis of that fire area. Any new exceptions identified as a result of the evaluation will be provided for NRC review and a 10CFR 50.59 type safety evaluation will be performed when those exceptions have been fully evaluated. Interim justification for operation during the interim period was provided in the {{letter dated|date=May 7, 1985|text=May 7, 1985 letter}}.
The attached FHA also reflects changes involving two other fire areas which will require MP&L to revise the exceptions identified in the Appendix                            l R Fire Protection Review Summary Report. These changes are as follows:                                ;

: 1)           Section 3.2 of the summary report indicated that raceway wraps of 3 hours rating would be provided for Division II Safety related cable located in Fire Zone IA305. MP&L intends to modify that circuit rather than providing wraps, thereby eliminating concern for Division II in that fire zone.

: 2)           Section 4.0, Fire Area 6, stated that Division I and Division II safe shutdown components that are not protected with fire barriers in Fire Tcne 1A211 are separated from each other by a distance of 28 feet. ine separating distance is actually 26 feet.
MP&L will provide revisions to those exceptions for NRC review.
I It should be noted that the FHA provided by the {{letter dated|date=May 7, 1985|text=May 7, 1985 letter}} bore the Specification Number 15026-M-500.0, Rev. 1. The updated version provided herein bears the Specification Number MP&L-M-500.0, Rev. 0. The specification number change results from the design document turnover process from Bechtel to MP&L. Change bars have been added to highlight changes from the previously submitted version.
MP&L is in receipt of Generic Letter 86-10 concerning implementation of the fire protection requirements and is currently assessing the method of evaluating changes to the Fire Hazards Analysis in light of this guidance.
