Your letter of April 27 1992 transmitted the Initial Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) report for Entetgy Operations, Inc.. Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) f or the period December 1, 1990 t hrout.h February 29, 1992. On May 6, 1992, during a pualic meeting, you formally presented the SALP results. This letter constitutes AN0's written comments on the subject report.
ANO concurs with the overall conclusion that performance was significantly improved during this assessment period. Notable improvements were made in the plant operations and radiological controls areas, and some improvements were made in each functional area. Also, the SALP report acknowledges strengths in staff qualifications, safety attitudes, and professionalism.
During the next SALP period, management will continue its aggressive efforts to focus on implementation of Business Plan initiatives, ef fectiveness reviews to ensure that corrective actions have addressed the root cause of deficient areas, and self-assessments to evaluate performance improvements in each SALP functional area. Also, management attention will continue to be dir*ctec toward improvements in the maintenance, engineering and technical support areas.
