Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.73 Sections (a)(1) and (d), attached is Licensee Event Report 369/86-01 concerning a Chemical and Volume Control (NV) System pump that was inoperable for more than 72 hours. This event was considered to be of no

significance with respect to the health and safety of the public.
My letter to Dr. J. Nelson Grace (NRC/0IE) of January 6, 1986. documenting the granting of the temporary waiver to TS action statements as discussed in this LER indicated that the NV Pump was declared inoperable due to. pump seal leakage.
Duke would like to clarify that the pump was not actually. inoperable due to the leakage (the. slight leakage was not enough to cause the pump to be inoperable),
but rather the decision to repair the pump to stop the leakage resulted in the pump being declared inoperable in order to perform the repair work.
