==Dear Sir:==

The subject Licensee Event Report described the failure of a reactor coolant pump shaft at Crystal River Unit 3.              The July 2,1986 supplement indicated the root cause for the shaft failure was still unknown, but the investiga-tion was continuing. That investigation is still continuing. FPC indicated in the subject LER a supplement would be submitted by September 30, 1986.
This estimate was based on the expected availabili ty of the report documenting the resul ts of the root cause investigation.                            Due to the extension of the schecule of the root cause investigation, we now expect to supplement LER 86-001-01 by January 30, 1987.
