The referenced PLA-1762 provided the commission with an interim report on the subject deficiency and indicated that PP&L was going to conduct testing and analysis to determine the load and its impact.
r This letter serves to provide an updated interim report and identifies the actions PP&L has taken to date.                    '
Testing to collect data to determine waterhammer loads on the SDV began when the Unit 1/ Unit 2 tie-in outage started. At present, testing is expected to be performed as follows:
                  - A hot functional test (TP-155-002) on Unit 1 at the start of the outage (complete).
:                 - A cold test (TP-155-003) on Unit 1 after the hot test.
                  - A cold test (in preparation) on Unit 2 following the Unit I cold test.
The hot and cold tests are being performed on Unit 1 in order to determine what effects temperature will have on the waterhammer loads. These results can then be correlated with the Unit 2 cold tests so that an accurate analysis of the waterhammer loads on Unit 2 can be made.
Based on current schedules it is anticipated that the testing and subsequent analysis will be completed in March, 1984. PP&L therefo,e expects to submit the final report on this condition, including any additional corrective action which may be necessary, in April,1984.
