Diane Screnci 610/337-5330 Email: OPA1.RESOURCE@nrc.gov Neil Sheehan 610/337-5331 NRC ASSIGNS NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR TO FITZPATRICK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Edward C. Knutson as the Senior Resident Inspector at the James A. FitzPatrick nuclear power plant in Scriba, N.Y. He joins Resident Inspector Scott Rutenkroger at the plant, operated by Entergy Nuclear.

Ed Knutson has extensive technical and regulatory experience, and has demonstrated the dedication to safety to carry out the NRCs commitment to protect people and the environment," said acting NRC Region I Administrator Marc L. Dapas.

Knutson joined the NRC in 1991 as a reactor engineer in the Region I office in King of Prussia. He has worked as a Resident Inspector at the Robert E. Ginna plant in Ontario, N.Y., at Vermont Yankee in Vernon, Vt., and at Nine Mile Point in Scriba, N.Y. Most recently, he was the Senior Resident Inspector at Nine Mile Point. Prior to joining the agency, Knutson served in the United States Navy for 14 years. Knutson earned bachelors degrees in biology and chemistry at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public.

The FitzPatrick resident inspectors can be reached at 315/342-4907.
