.me these courses were available, DHEW was protection. Howevei, providing matching gran States to develop State radiation control programs. These funds coui6 be and were used by States to offset the travel and per diem costs of State employees attending DHEW courses. The DHEW training courses in radiation protection were 16rgely phased out by 1970 and the DHEW matching grant program also ended in 1970. Present DHEW training in radiation protection is limited to specific FDA progrims, e.g., training for States who assist in testing diagnostic x-ray equipment for compliance with Federal performance standards and for State personnel participating in national surveys of diagnostic x-ray machine radiation doses.
