UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 The Honorable Shelley Moore Capito Chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Chairman Capito:
June 10, 2025 Enclosed is the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) fiscal year (FY) 2026 Congressional Budget Justification. This Congressional Budget Justification reflects the NRC's continued commitment to protect public health and safety and advance the nation's common defense and security by enabling the safe and secure use and deployment of civilian nuclear energy technologies and radioactive materials through efficient and reliable licensing, oversight, and regulation for the benefit of society and the environment. The NRC's FY 2026 budget request provides the resources necessary to accomplish mission-critical activities related to safety and security in the Nuclear Reactor Safety Program and the Nuclear Materials and Waste Safety Program.
The NRC's FY 2026 budget request, including the Office of the Inspector General, is
$971.5 million, including 2,792 full-time equivalents. This request represents an increase of
$27.4 million or approximately 2.9 percent when compared to the FY 2025 Enacted budget.
The NRC projects to recover $819.4 million from fees, resulting in a net budget authority of
$152.1 million. This is an increase of $15 million from $137.1 million in FY 2025.
The FY 2026 resources requested for the Corporate Support Business Line constitute 30 percent of the agency's total budget authority and complies with the corporate support cap in Section 503, "Commission Corporate Support Funding," of the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy Act of 2024.
The NRC stands ready to support your review of this budget request through briefings and responses to questions. Please contact me or have your staff contact Eugene Dacus, Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs, at (301) 415-1776 if we may be of assistance.
Sincerely,
~~GJ#
