Exemption Requests for Physical Barriers Ladies and Gentlemen:
On July 7, 2023, in accordance with 10 CFR 73.5, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted an exemption request to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding the physical barrier definition in 10 CFR 73.2 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23188A163, SNC letter No. NL-23-0555). On February 12, 2024, SNC provided a response to a request for additional information (ADAMS Accession No. ML24043A186, SNC letter No. NL-24-0042). On March 7, 2024, the NRC requested updated figures by e-mail based upon additional non-conforming sections of barrier as discussed in the February 12th SNC response.
The figures contained in this response replace Farley Figure F3 and Vogtle Figure V2 from the original submittal (NL-23-0555). The figures contain security-related information (SRI), also referred to as sensitive unclassified non-safeguards information (SUNSI); therefore, SNC requests that these be withheld under the provisions of 10 CFR 2.390. SNC acknowledges that the NRC has requested additional justification for withholding of the original figures submitted in NL-23-0555. SNC provided additional information on February 5, 2024 (ADAMS Accession No. ML24036A292, SNC letter No. NL-24-0033) to support the request for withholding. The justification contained in the February 5, 2024 response continues to apply to these figures as replaced.
