UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 ALL AGREEMENT STATES, CONNECTICUT, INDIANA NOTIFICATION OF U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION SPONSORED TRAINING COURSE SCHEDULE (TENTATIVE) FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022 (STC-21-046)

Purpose:

To provide the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sponsored training course schedule (tentative) available to Agreement States staff for fiscal year 2022 and initiate the application process.

Background:

The NRC will fund training and associated travel for Agreement State staff to attend courses sponsored by the NRC. If the States require additional training not sponsored by the NRC, it will be the responsibility of the States to provide that training to its staff.

Discussion: The complete list of NRC sponsored training courses (tentative) for the 2022 fiscal year has been posted to our website, https://scp.nrc.gov/training.html. As changes to the schedule occur, the updated schedule will be posted to the website. Possible changes to the schedule may include low student participation and/or support of instructors due to travel restrictions, and availability of the facilities supporting the course. In addition, classes will be filled at 25 percent capacity to adhere to the practice of social distancing until guidance changes. Please restrain from submitting applications if you are aware of travel restrictions within your state that will hinder participation in courses.

Please complete and submit a training application, located on our website, for each individual.

Applications must be submitted by the indicated due date, usually 10 weeks prior to the course start date. In addition, we will not be rolling over the applications received from previous year submissions. New applications must be submitted for the fiscal year 2022 courses. A letter of acceptance will be issued between 8 and 9 weeks prior to the course start date. Priority is not given to early applicants, as all applicants will be considered at the due date. The letter of acceptance will contain specific guidance relating to travel and per diem and will provide the students with information relating to their responsibilities. Upon acceptance, if an individual is no longer available to attend the course, notification must be provided immediately so that individuals on the waiting list have an opportunity to attend.

In addition, the Environmental Monitoring for Radioactivity (H-111) and Air Sampling for Radioactive Materials (H-119) courses have been merged and will be replaced by a new blended training curriculum that is composed of two components:

H-130S, Sampling for Radioactive Material Self-Study Course, which will include several online self-study modules and an exam.

July 19, 2021

H-130L, Sampling for Radioactive Material Lab Course that will supplement the online modules and include 4 days of hands-on training and field work at a contractors facility in Oak Ridge, TN.

More detailed information on this new blended curriculum will be made available in the upcoming weeks and enrollment is expected to open in late summer/early fall.
