Nuclear Regulatory Commission, "Request for Relief related to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code Case N-729-6 Supplemental Examination Requirements, ISIR-5-04," dated October 5, 2020, (ADAMS Accession No. ML20279A713).

By the Reference letter, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(2), Indiana Michigan Power Company (l&M),

the licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP) Unit 1, requested that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approve an alternative to Code Case N-729-6.for CNP Unit 1. At the time the relief request was submitted, l&M had not completed the CO2 cleaning and.subsequent visual examination (VE) required by Code Case N-729-6 Paragraph -3142.1 (b)(2).

The purpose of this supplement Is to provide the photographs of the U1 reactor vessel closure head (RVCH) and provide the post CO2 cleaning update of the results of the subsequent VE.

l&M performed C~ cleaning and VE on the 17 specific penetrations and general surfaces identified In the Reference letter to have relevant conditions. The subsequent VE found no relevant conditions In the identified areas specified in the Reference letter, of the RVCH. The enclosure to this letter provides photographs of both the pre-CD2 cleaning condition and final condition following ~

cleaning of the RVCH.

l&M requested approval of the proposed relief request prior to entry into Mode 2. Mode 2 is now scheduled to occur earty on October 15, 2020. l&M is still requesting approval of the relief request on the original date of October 14, 2020.
