A-107a, A-286a, B-31c, SpF-118 In accordance with the requirements of Paragraph IWA-6230 in Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and 10 CFR Section 50.55a(g), we are submitting our 1996 Refueling Outage Inservice Inspection Summary Report (Attachment 1). This report addresses examinations which were performed at the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) during the time period from April 20,1995 through November 16,1996. As the third 10-year interval began on November 1,1996, this summary report contains inspections credited to both the second and the third 10-year inservice inspection intervals.

. ' Attachment 2 provides information regarding augmented inservice inspections performed during the 1996 Refueling Outage. These inspections include those required by NUREG-0313, Revision 2, " Technical Report on Material Selection and Processing Guidelines for BWR Coolant Pressure Boundary Piping" and NUREG-0619, "BWR Feedwater Nozzle and Control Rod Drive Retum Line Noz2le Cracking."
The examinations required by NUREG-0619 include a periodic penetrant test (PT) of the feedwater nozzles. In the referenced letter, IES Utilities informed the NRC of our intent to modify the DAEC's commitment to NUREG-0619, in accordance with the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI)" Guideline for Managing NRC Commitments," Revision 2. We revised our commitment to perform this periodic feedwater nozzle PT and instead performed an ultrasonic examination (UT) of the feedwater nozzles during the 1996 Refueling Outage.
. Our review of the inspection reports has determined that all examined items are acceptable. These inspection reports are on file and are available for your review upon request.
