Dear Mr. Denton:

Enclosed for your review is Amendment 2 to the South Texas Project (STP) Units 1 and 2 Fire Hazards Analysis Report (FHAR).

A copy of this transmittal is attached to each~ amendment copy.

Amendment 2 revises the FHAR to incorporate the following:

1.

Fixed overhead full area coverage sprinklers (non-NFPA and non-Seismic) were added to the STP cable spreading rooms and power cable vault. This change is reflected throughout the FHAR.

2.

Revision to Section 1.3.2 to provide STP's criteria for fire protection of areas with concentrated cable outside of the cable spreading rooms and power cable vault.

3.

Revision to Chapter 2 to provide the methodology which will be i

used to perform the associated circuit / spurious actuation analysis.

4.

Additions and clarifications were added (primarily to Chapter 4) to provide resolution of the STP Fire Protection Draft Safety Evaluation Report (DSER) open items.

5.

Revisions to Table 2-2 and Zone Tables in Chapter 3 to update the safe shutdown functions and equipment.

6.

Revision to Section 4.1, Item III.A to reflect actual capacity of Fire Water Storage Tanks.

7.

Miscellaneous additions and clarifications for both technical and editorial information.

STP's criteria for providing fixed automatic suppression for concentrated cabling outside the cable spreading rooms and outside the power cable vault (see item 2 above) will be evaluated by the NRC to close this item as agreed to in the HL&P meeting with the NRC on September 17, 1985.

A separate letter with specific references to resolution of open items will be provided by October 17, 1985.
