&rN d St'BJ ECT : Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units I and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416 and 50-417 File: 0260/L-860.0/L-952.0/M-189.0 Preservice Inspection to ASME Section XI AECM-81/334 Tr.e purpose of this letter is to provide for your review additional information concerning the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Preservice Inspection Program. The information provided herein is based on the Nuclear Regulatory Connission (NRC) guidance, conments, and requirements outlined in the necting held between Mr. Martin Hue of Materials Engineering Branch and Mississippi Power & Light Cenpany (MP&L) on August 6, 198'.
Attachment une (1) provides additional requests for relief fron ASME Section XI Code requirements. Attachrent two (2) provides the requested detailed information on the application of ASME Section XI, Code Exenption Criteria. Attachnent three (3) consists of responses to Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) cuestions 121.7, 121.10, 121.11, 121.12, 121.13 and 121.14 Attachment four (4) consists of the additional PSI /ISI Isometric drawings requested in Question 121.12.
The plans for the finalized PSI and subsequent inservice examinations for ASME Class 1, 2, and 3 pressure retaining ccaponents, will be in accordance with the 1977 edition of ASME Section XI, with addenda through and including Sunne r l')7 8. The GGNS FSAR subsections 3.9.6, 5.2.4, and 6.6.1 have been amended to reflect this ccemitment. Later addenda which becomes effective will be evaluated and incorporated cs necessary to conply with 10CFR50.55a(g).
l Any additional specific requests for relief, other than those subnitted as l part of this submittal, will be submitted under separate cover with necessary j justification.
I As specified in FSAR subsections 3.9.6, 5.2.4, and 6.6.1, the plans and schedules for inservice inspection, as provided for in the MPL/CE Contract and Section XI of the ASME Code, will be completed and filed with enforcement and regulatory authorities having jurisdiction rt the plant site. The procedures, GE Quality Assurance Manual, and other documents necessary to complete the site preservice examination have been generated and will be revised as needed and incorporated into the overall inspection plan. These docurents are available for your review at the Grand Gulf construction site.
