UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION CHARTER FOR THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES 2.1.

Committees Official Designation: (Title):

Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (Committee or ACMUI)

3.2. Authority

Established PursuantThe committee is established pursuant to 42 United States Code (U.S.C) §2201 as an NRC discretionary committee.

Committees objectives, scope in accordance with the provisions of activities and duties are as follows:the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), as amended, 5 U.S.C. App.

3. Objectives and Scope of Activities:

The Committee provides advice, as requested by the Director, Division of Materials Safety, Security, State, and Tribal Programs (MSST), Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), on policy and technical issues that arise in regulating the medical use of byproduct material for diagnosis and therapy. The Committee may provide consulting services as requested by the Director, MSST.

4. Description of Duties:

The Committee comments on changes to NRC regulations and guidance; evaluates certain non-routine uses of radioactive material; provides technical assistance in licensing, inspection, and enforcement cases; and brings key issues to the attention of the agency for appropriate action. The Committee members may also serve as medical consultants to the Director, MSST, as requested.

Approximately 13 members utilize 2.231.84 FTE (includes approximately 1.3913 FTE forin NRC staff support and 0.8471 FTE for ACMUI member compensation and travel) expenses), and $374337,000.

Designated Federal Officer:

A full time NRC employee from the Division of Materials Safety, Security, State, and Tribal Programs will serve as the Designated Federal Officer (DFO). The DFO will approve or call all of the advisory committee meetings, prepare and approve all meeting agendas, attend all committee meetings, adjourn any meeting when the DFO determines adjournment to be in the public interest, and chair meetings when directed to do so by the Director, MSST.

Continuing Committee subject to Charter renewal in March 2020.

Termination:

Unless renewed by appropriate action, the Committee will terminate two-years from the date this charter is filed.

12. Membership and Designation:

Members are appointed by the Director, NMSS as Special Government Employees. The membership includesof the Committee is comprised of 13 members, including health care professionals of diverse specialties who represent diagnostic and therapeutic applications of medicine, medical administration, and patient care advocacy.

The Committee does not have standing subcommittees; if ad hoc subcommittees are used, they would report to the full Committee.

1314. Recordkeeping:

The Committee records will be handled in accordance with General Records Schedule 6.2 and approved NRC records disposition schedules. These records shall be available for public inspection and copying, subject to the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C.
