Analysis of 0ccurrence:

The broken can was'sent to' the vendor, Limitorque Corporation, for -

analysis. .Limitorque indicated in a return letter that the "ma-terial (melamine) does not appear to be defective". 'They sug-gested, based'on their experience, that a failure of this soct usually occurs as a result.of dropping the motor housing on the cams. .This does not fit.our case 'since the valve operator had'

= operated several times since the last time the motor housing was removed. - Consequently, NPPD will'act on the assumption that the can coating is defective..

Corrective Action:

Fibrite coated cams are currently stocked as spare . parts at Cooper

= Nuclear Station. When maintenance is performed on the _ subject style motor operatorr, the limit switch came are replaced with the '
