Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is providing revised Technical Specification (TS) Bases pages for Technical Specification 3.7.3, "Component Cooling Water System." The revised pages were reviewed through the 10CFR50.59 process by the Station Operations Review Conunittee and approved by the General Manager - Salem Operations.

Technical Specification 3.7.3 specifies the operability requirements for the Component Cooling Water System (CCW) . The TS Bases have been revised to state that three CCW pumps are I required to be operable to meet the Limiting Condition for Operation. This requirement has already been implemented in procedures. The Salem Updated Final Safety Analysis Report has been revised to be consistent with this Technical Specification Bases change. Issuance of this Technical Specification Bases change fulfills a conunitment made by PSE&G in a letter to the NRC dated May 14, 1997 (LR-N970298, Item #7).

The attachment to this letter contains the revised pages for Salem Unit Nos. 1 and 2 Technical Specification Bases. Please incorporate these changes into the Technical Specifications.
