Nuclear Regulatory Commission, "Update to Dresden Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report," dated January 5, 2007 (ADAMS ML070050166)

In Reference 1, as required by 1 O CFR 50.82, "Termination of License," paragraph (a)(4)(i),

Commonwealth Edison Company (i.e., now Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon))

transmitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR) for Dresden Nuclear Power Station (DNPS) Unit

1. In References 2 and 3, as required by 10 CFR 50.82, paragraph (a)(7), Exelon notified the NRC of changes to the planned decommissioning activities and schedules described in the DNPS Unit 1 PSDAR.

The purpose of this letter is to provide a further update on the location of the DNPS Unit 1 spent fuel and planned decommissioning schedules described in the DNPS Unit 1 PSDAR.

All spent fuel from DNPS Unit 1 (including fuel previously stored in the Unit 1 spent fuel pool (SFP), the Unit 1 fuel transfer pool, the Unit 2 SFP, and the Unit 3 SFP) has been transferred to the on-site Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). The last assemblies from

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report Docket Nos. 50-1 O March 19, 2018 Page2 Unit 1 were moved from the DNPS Unit 3 SFP to the ISFSI in 2014. In 2016, the rod basket containing Unit 1 fuel was moved from the DNPS Unit 3 SFP to the ISFSI.

DNPS Unit 1 is currently in SAFSTOR and will remain in SAFSTOR until approximately 1 year prior to the shutdown of DNPS Unit 2 (renewed Facility Operating License DPR-19, expires December 22, 2029).

Current Exelon plans specify that decontamination and dismantlement and site restoration of DNPS Unit 1, will coordinate with the equivalent activities for DNPS Units 2 and 3 (renewed Facility Operating License DPR-25). As the license expiration for DNPS Unit 2 approaches, the activity schedule for DNPS Unit 1 specified in Reference 3 will be refined and the DNPS Unit 1 PSDAR updated in accordance with 1 O CFR 50.82 paragraph (a)(7).
