Subject:

Notification of Intention Regarding Inspection Report 05000461/2017009 and Preliminary White Finding (EA-17-098)

Reference:

Letter from Patrick L. Louden (NRC) to Bryan C. Hanson (EGC), "Clinton Power Station NRC Inspection Report 05000461/2017009 and Preliminary White Finding [EA-17-098]," dated August 14, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17226A321)

In the referenced letter, the NRC documented a finding concerning the failure to evaluate the change in the actual drop out voltages for replacement relays associated with the Division 1 Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) Room Vent Fan which has been preliminarily determined to be a White finding with low to moderate safety significance.

The referenced letter requested verbal and written notification within ten days of the date of the letter stating Exelon Generation Company, LLC's (EGC) intention to communicate EGC's position on the facts and assumptions used to arrive at the finding and assess its significance by either (1) requesting a Regulatory Conference to meet with the NRC and provide EGC's views in person; or (2) submit ECG's position on the finding in writing. On August 23, 2017, Mr. Bradley Kapellas discussed with Ms. Karla Stoedter, of the NRC, EGC's choice to submit a written response on this matter. This letter provides the written notification that EGC will submit a written response within 40 days of the receipt of the referenced letter.

There are no regulatory commitments contained in this letter. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Dale A. Shelton, Regulatory Assurance Manager, at (217) 937-2800.
