ATTACHMENT DESCRXPTION OF THE EVENT On March 17 and 18,
- 1990, the Unit 1 main condensers at the St.
Lucie plant (SN 001) were chlorinated for 110 minutes each.
These were the only chlorinations during the month of March, since the unit was shutdown for refueling and maintenance.
- Normally, analyses are conducted at the beginning of the week and laboratory personnel expected that this was the case.
However, chlorinations were discontinued for the rest of the month such that the required samples for free available oxidants (FAO) were not collected at the point of discharge.
Nevertheless, continuous monitoring at the discharge canal terminus indicated less than detectable
(<0.01 ppm) total residual oxidants during the chlorination period.
While close attention has been paid to obtaining these samples on a
weekly basis, particularly when the units are not operating continuously, closer attention willbe paid to weekend instructions to ensure that. this situation is not repeated.
