Re: St. Lucie Unit I Docket No. 50-335 Proposed License Amendment Active Fuel Len th In accordance with IO CFR 50.90, Florida Power 8 Light Company (FPL) submits herewith three signed originals and forty copies of a request to amend Facility Operating License DPR-67. The proposed amendment changes the nominal active fuel length for reactor core fuel assemblies specified in St. Lucie Unit I Technical Specification 5.3.l. The purpose of this change is to permit the loading of fuel with a nominal active fuel length of between l34.I and l36.7 inches. The amended active fuel length requirements will permit the use of a fuel rod design that is more resistant to fretting type failures than the present design. A marked up copy of the affected Technical Specification page is included as Attachment I. A Safety Evaluation in support of the proposed amendment is included as Attachment 2. A "Determination of No Significant Hazards Consideration" is provided as Attachment 3. The proposed amendment has been reviewed by the St. Lucie Facility Review Group and the Florida Power & Light Company Nuclear Review Board. In accordance with IO CFR 50.9I(b)(l), a copy of the proposed amendment is being forwarded to the state designee for the State of Florida.
