GO2-16-128 Attachment Page 1 of 1 RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION In response to the August 23, 2016, letter transmitted by e-mail, Energy Northwest submits the following response.
NRC Request 1:
To complete its review NRC staff requests the following additional information.
The NRC requests that the licensee verify that the code of construction for all components that the proposed alternative may be applied to require a surface examination (magnetic particle or liquid penetrant) of socket welds in Class 1 and 2, nominal pipe size 2 and smaller piping. If this is not the case, the NRC requests that the applicant modify its alternative to require a surface examination of all completed ASME [American Society of Mechanical Engineers] Code Class 1 and 2 socket weld overlays performed in accordance with the proposed alternative and provide the applicable acceptance criteria.
Energy Northwest Response to RAI 1:
Energy Northwest has reviewed that the code of construction, ASME Section III, 1971 Edition through Winter 1973 Addenda (Class 1and 2) and ASME Section III, 1974 Edition through Winter 1975 Addenda (Class 1 and 2) and verified that a surface examination (magnetic particle or liquid penetrant) of socket welds in Class 1 and 2 nominal pipe size 2 and smaller piping at Columbia Generating Station is required. Therefore, no modification to Relief Request 4ISI-06 is required.
