This letter provides Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation's (WCNOC) report for the 60-day requirement of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Bulletin 2004-01, "Inspection of Alloy 82/182/600 Materials Used in the Fabrication of Pressurizer Penetrations and Steam Space Piping Connections at Pressurized-Water Reactors," dated May 28, 2004.

Paragraph (2)(a) of the Bulletin requires, within 60 days after plant restart following the next inspection of the Alloy 82/182/600 pressurizer penetrations and steam space piping connections, a description of the inspection and the results obtained. This information is provided in Attachment II. WCNOC completed an inspection of the pressurizer penetrations and steam space piping connections during refueling outage 14, which ended May 19, 2005.

Requested Information (2)(a) Submit a statement Indicating that the inspections described in response to item (1)(c) of this bulletin were completed and a description of the as-found condition of the pressurizer shell, any findings of relevant indications of through-wall leakage, follow-up NDE performed to characterize flaws in leaking penetrations or steam space piping connections, a summary of all relevant indications found by NDE, a summary of the disposition of any findings of boric acid, and any corrective actions taken and/or repairs made as a result of the indications found.

WCNOC Response During refueling outage 14, WCNOC performed a direct bare metal visual examination on all five steam space piping connections on the pressurizer. The inspections were documented in accordance with procedural guidance. Photographs were taken of each location.

No relevant indications of through-wall leakage were found on the pressurizer steam space piping connections. In the area of examination, the pressurizer shell was clean, with no indications of boric acid and no conditions present that would mask indications.
